Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • ¼ cup finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon finely minced pickled jalapeño
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water for cornstarch slurry
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions
 

Blend The Base

  • Blend the ketchup, water, bell pepper, vinegar, corn syrup and brown sugar until mostly smooth.

Pour Into A Saucepan

  • Transfer the blended mixture into a small saucepan over medium heat.

Add The Seasonings

  • Stir in the onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and minced jalapeño.

Simmer Gently

  • Cook the sauce for about ten minutes while stirring often.

Make The Slurry

  • Mix the cornstarch with one tablespoon of water until smooth.

Thicken The Sauce

  • Slowly stir the slurry into the simmering sauce.

Cook Again

  • Continue cooking for two to three minutes until the sauce thickens.

Taste The Sauce

  • Adjust the sweetness or spice to match your preference.

Strain If Desired

  • Strain the sauce for an extra smooth restaurant-style texture.

Cool Completely

  • Remove from the heat and allow the sauce to cool.

Chill

  • Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.
