Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup fresh Parmesan cheese grated
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • Fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

Melt the Butter

  • Heat a saucepan over low heat. Add butter and let it melt slowly without browning.

Add the Garlic

  • Add minced garlic to the melted butter. Cook for one minute until fragrant and lightly softened.

Pour in the Cream

  • Slowly pour heavy cream into the pan. Stir gently and keep the heat low to avoid burning.

Simmer the Sauce

  • Let the mixture simmer for three to four minutes. Keep stirring so the sauce heats evenly.

Add the Cheese

  • Add grated Parmesan cheese to the hot cream. Stir until the cheese melts smoothly into the sauce.

Season the Sauce

  • Add salt, black pepper, and nutmeg if using. Stir well to mix all flavors in the sauce.

Cook Until Thick

  • Let the sauce cook for two more minutes. Keep stirring until the texture becomes thick and creamy.

Remove from Heat

  • Turn off the heat once the sauce reaches your desired thickness. It will thicken a little more as it cools.

Add Fresh Parsley

  • Add chopped parsley for freshness. Mix lightly and taste to adjust seasoning if needed.

Serve with Pasta

  • Pour the Alfredo sauce over hot pasta. Mix well and enjoy a creamy, comforting meal.

Notes

  • Use Fresh Cheese: Fresh Parmesan melts better and creates a smooth sauce. Avoid pre-shredded cheese because it contains starch.
  • Keep the Heat Low: High heat can break the sauce. Low heat keeps it creamy and stable.
  • Add Protein: Add grilled chicken, shrimp, or sautéed mushrooms for a richer pasta dish.
  • Make It Thicker: Add a little more cheese if you want a thicker sauce. Stir until creamy.
  • Add More Flavor: Add white pepper, Italian seasoning, or a pinch of chili flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Use Half-and-Half: If you want a lighter version, replace half the cream with milk.
