Ingredients

  • 1 –1.5 pounds hanger steak
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

Prepare Marinade

  • In a bowl, mix olive oil, garlic, herbs, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and Dijon mustard.

Marinate Steak

  • Place steak in marinade. Coat well and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best flavor).

Bring to Room Temperature

  • Remove steak from fridge 20 minutes before cooking. This helps even cooking.

Preheat Grill or Pan

  • Heat grill or cast iron skillet over high heat until very hot.

Cook Steak

  • Place steak on hot surface. Cook 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare.

Check Doneness

  • Use a thermometer if needed (130–135°F for medium-rare).

Rest Steak

  • Remove steak and let rest for 5–10 minutes to keep juices inside.

Slice Properly

  • Slice steak against the grain into thin strips for tenderness.

Serve

  • Serve hot with your favorite sides or sauces.

Notes

  • Do not overcook hanger steak; it becomes tough
  • Use high heat for a perfect crust
  • Slice against the grain for best texture
  • Add chimichurri sauce for extra flavor
  • Use a cast iron skillet if no grill is available
  • Season again lightly after cooking for enhanced taste
  • Pair with roasted vegetables or potatoes
