Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup softened butter
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter for brushing

Instructions

Activate the Yeast

  • Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let it rest for ten minutes until foamy and bubbly.

Warm the Milk

  • Heat the milk slightly until warm. Do not boil it because very hot milk can kill the yeast.

Mix Wet Ingredients

  • Add warm milk, egg and softened butter into the yeast mixture. Stir gently until everything looks smooth and creamy.

Add Dry Ingredients

  • Slowly add flour and salt into the bowl. Mix well until a soft dough begins forming together nicely.

Knead the Dough

  • Knead the dough for eight minutes until smooth and elastic. Use a stand mixer or your clean hands.

Let the Dough Rise

  • Place dough inside a greased bowl. Cover with towel and let it rise for one hour until doubled.

Roll the Dough

  • Punch down the dough gently. Roll it into a large rectangle on a lightly floured clean surface carefully.

Cut the Dough

  • Use a knife or cutter to make small rectangles. Keep the pieces even for equal baking and rising.

Shape the Rolls

  • Brush rectangles with melted butter. Fold each piece in half gently to create the classic Parker roll shape.

Arrange on Baking Sheet

  • Place shaped rolls onto parchment-lined baking sheet. Leave little spaces between them for rising and baking properly.

Second Rise

  • Cover rolls with towel again. Let them rise for thirty minutes until soft, puffy and airy before baking.

Bake the Rolls

  • Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for twenty minutes. The tops should become golden brown and beautifully shiny.

Brush with Butter

  • Remove hot rolls from oven carefully. Brush melted butter over the tops for extra flavor and softness immediately.

Cool Slightly

  • Let the rolls cool for five minutes. Serve warm with butter, soup or your favorite family dinner meal.

Notes

  • Use bread flour for extra chewy texture.
  • Do not use very hot milk or water.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place.
  • Brush butter before and after baking.
  • Add garlic powder for garlic butter rolls.
  • Sprinkle sea salt on top before baking.
  • Mix chopped herbs into the dough.
  • Add shredded cheese for cheesy rolls.
  • Use honey instead of sugar for sweeter flavor.
  • Freeze extra dough for later baking.
