  • 8 pizzelle cookies
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Fresh basil optional

Instructions
 

Heat the Oil

  • Pour oil into a frying pan. Heat over medium flame until hot but not smoking.

Fry the Pizzelle

  • Place pizzelle in hot oil carefully. Fry for 1–2 minutes until crispy and lightly golden.

Drain Excess Oil

  • Remove pizzelle and place on paper towels. This helps remove extra oil and keeps them crispy.

Prepare the Sauce

  • Heat tomato sauce in a pan. Add oregano, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Stir well and cook briefly.

Assemble the Base

  • Place fried pizzelle on a plate or baking tray. Spread tomato sauce evenly over each piece.

Add Cheese

  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Make sure each pizzelle is well covered with cheese.

Melt the Cheese

  • Place in oven or cover pan briefly. Heat until cheese melts and becomes soft and gooey.
