Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg optional
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

Melt butter in saucepan

  • Place butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Melt slowly to avoid burning.

Sauté garlic

  • Add minced garlic to melted butter. Cook 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not brown.

Add heavy cream

  • Pour in heavy cream slowly. Stir constantly to combine with butter and garlic.

Simmer gently

  • Reduce heat to low. Simmer cream mixture for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add Parmesan cheese

  • Gradually add freshly grated Parmesan. Stir until melted and sauce is creamy and smooth.

Season the sauce

  • Add salt, black pepper and a pinch of nutmeg if desired. Stir well to combine flavors.

Cook until thickened

  • Continue cooking for 2–3 minutes until sauce reaches desired thickness. Stir constantly to prevent lumps.

Add garnish

  • If desired, stir in chopped parsley. Serve immediately over pasta, chicken or vegetables.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for best flavor; pre-grated may not melt as smoothly.
  • Adjust garlic amount according to taste. More garlic equals stronger flavor.
  • Add a teaspoon of lemon juice for a slightly tangy touch.
  • For extra creaminess, add 2 tablespoons of cream cheese.
  • Use this sauce as a dip for breadsticks or vegetables.
  • Substitute half-and-half for cream for a lighter version.
