Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup dried fruit raisins, cranberries, or chopped apricots

Instructions

Toast the Oats and Nuts

  • Spread oats, almonds, and coconut on a baking sheet. Bake them for ten minutes until slightly golden and fragrant.

Heat the Sweet Mixture

  • Melt butter, honey, and brown sugar in a small saucepan. Stir until the sugar dissolves fully and becomes smooth.

Add Vanilla and Salt

  • Remove the pan from heat. Add vanilla extract and salt. Mix gently until the mixture becomes warm and glossy.

Combine Dry Ingredients

  • Transfer toasted oats and nuts into a mixing bowl. Add dried fruit and stir until everything is mixed well.

Pour the Sweet Mixture

  • Pour the warm butter mixture over the dry ingredients. Mix quickly to coat everything before it becomes thick.

Prepare Baking Pan

  • Line the baking pan with parchment paper. Leave extra paper hanging on two sides to make lifting easier later.

Press the Mixture

  • Transfer the granola mixture into the pan. Use a spatula or your hand to press it firmly to create thick, even bars.

Chill for Best Results

  • Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least ninety minutes. Allow the bars to set and become firm for cutting.

Cut the Bars

  • Lift the chilled block using the parchment paper. Slice it into even bars using a sharp knife for clean edges.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Enjoy the chewy and sweet homemade granola bars. They are perfect with milk, coffee, tea, or as a quick snack.

Notes

  • Toast your oats. This adds deeper flavor and makes the bars taste richer.
  • Press firmly. This step helps the bars hold their shape and prevents crumbling.
  • Use good honey. The flavor of honey affects the sweetness and taste of the bars.
  • Add chocolate chips. Add them after the mixture cools slightly so they do not melt.
  • Use dried cherries or blueberries. They give a sweet and tangy taste.
  • Add seeds. Pumpkin seeds or chia seeds add crunch and nutrition.
  • Use maple syrup. Replace honey with maple syrup for a softer flavor.
  • Add peanut butter. Mix in two tablespoons for a nutty twist.
