Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled cored and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cut into cubes

Instructions
 

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the baking dish lightly with butter.

Prepare Apple Filling

  • In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg until well coated.

Transfer to Baking Dish

  • Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Make Crisp Topping

  • In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add cold butter cubes.

Combine Topping

  • Use fingers or a pastry cutter to mix butter into dry ingredients until crumbly, coarse texture forms.

Sprinkle Topping Over Apples

  • Evenly sprinkle oat mixture over the apple filling. Cover all apples for a crunchy layer.

Bake the Crisp

  • Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender.

Cool Slightly

  • Remove from oven. Let cool for 5–10 minutes so juices thicken slightly.

Serve Warm

  • Scoop portions into bowls. Optionally, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
