Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • ΒΌ cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

Rinse the rice

  • Wash rice under cold water until clear. This removes excess starch and helps make the rice fluffy and separate.

Cook the rice

  • Add rice and water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and cook until tender.

Rest the rice

  • Turn off heat and let the rice sit covered for 5 minutes. This step helps steam finish cooking.

Fluff the rice

  • Use a fork to gently fluff the rice. This keeps grains separate and light in texture.

Add oil or butter

  • Mix in olive oil or butter while rice is warm. This adds richness and smooth flavor.

Add lime flavor

  • Pour in fresh lime juice and lime zest. Mix well so the rice absorbs the fresh citrus taste.

Add cilantro

  • Stir in chopped cilantro. Mix gently to spread the herb flavor evenly through the rice.

Season the rice

  • Add salt and pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning based on your preference.

Serve fresh

  • Serve the rice warm. Garnish with extra cilantro or lime wedges if desired.

Notes

  • Use basmati rice for extra fragrance.
  • Add garlic for more flavor.
  • Use chicken broth instead of water for richer taste.
  • Add green chilies for a spicy twist.
  • Use brown rice for a healthier option.
