  • 2 large carrots peeled and grated
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon celery seed optional

Instructions

Chop the Cabbage

  • Remove outer leaves. Cut into quarters. Chop finely with a knife or food processor.

Grate the Carrots

  • Peel carrots. Grate them and add to the bowl with cabbage.

Add the Onion

  • Chop onion finely. Mix it with the cabbage and carrots.

Make the Dressing

  • In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, milk, vinegar, and sugar. Whisk until smooth.

Season the Dressing

  • Add salt, pepper, and celery seed if using. Mix well.

Mix Salad and Dressing

  • Pour dressing over cabbage mixture. Toss gently until coated evenly.

Chill the Coleslaw

  • Cover bowl and put in fridge for at least 1 hour. Chilling blends flavors.

Taste and Adjust

  • Taste before serving. Add more salt, sugar, or vinegar if needed.

Serve Fresh

  • Serve cold with fried chicken, sandwiches, or burgers. Enjoy the creamy crunch.

Notes

  • Chop cabbage very small for a finer texture.
  • Make the coleslaw a day before; it tastes better after chilling overnight.
  • Add a little lemon juice for extra tang.
  • Use light mayonnaise for fewer calories.
  • Optional: add chopped green bell pepper for more freshness.
