Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Combine base ingredients

  • In a saucepan, add ketchup, vinegar and brown sugar. Stir well until everything is mixed evenly.

Add flavor ingredients

  • Add molasses, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Mix thoroughly to combine all flavors.

Add spices

  • Sprinkle paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper and salt. Stir until spices are evenly distributed.

Heat the mixture

  • Place saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer while stirring occasionally.

Simmer slowly

  • Reduce heat and cook for 15–20 minutes. Stir often until sauce thickens and becomes smooth.

Taste and adjust

  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning. Add more sugar for sweetness or vinegar for tang.

Cool the sauce

  • Remove from heat and let it cool. The sauce will thicken more as it cools down.

Store properly

  • Transfer to a jar or container. Keep in the fridge until ready to use.

Serve and enjoy

  • Use as a dipping sauce, marinade or glaze for meats and vegetables.

Notes

  • Add chili powder for a spicy kick
  • Use honey instead of sugar for natural sweetness
  • Add liquid smoke for smoky flavor
  • Blend for a smoother texture
  • Adjust vinegar for more tanginess
  • Use fresh garlic for stronger taste
