Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 eggs for filling
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup melted butter for filling
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your baking pan lightly with butter or oil. This prevents sticking and helps easy serving.

Make the Cake Base

  • In a bowl, mix chocolate cake mix, one egg and melted butter. Stir well until thick dough forms. It should feel soft and slightly sticky.

Press the Base

  • Press the dough evenly into the baking pan. Use your hands or spatula. Make sure the layer is smooth and covers the whole bottom.

Prepare Cream Cheese Filling

  • In another bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth. Add two eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until creamy and lump-free.

Add Sugar and Cocoa

  • Slowly add powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Mix gently until smooth batter forms. It should be thick but pourable.

Add Butter to Filling

  • Pour melted butter into the mixture. Mix well until everything combines perfectly. The filling should look glossy and rich.

Pour Filling Over Base

  • Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake base. Spread evenly using a spatula. Make sure all corners are covered properly.

Bake the Cake

  • Place the pan in the oven. Bake for about 40–45 minutes. The edges should be set, but center should stay soft and gooey.

Cool Before Cutting

  • Remove cake from oven and let it cool completely. This helps the layers set. Cutting too early may make it messy.

Slice and Serve

  • Cut into squares and serve. Enjoy the rich, chocolatey, gooey texture. It tastes even better slightly warm.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese for smooth mixing
  • Do not overbake or the gooey texture will be lost
  • Add chocolate chips for extra richness
  • Try white chocolate version by skipping cocoa powder
  • Add nuts like walnuts for crunchy texture
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream for best taste
  • Use dark cocoa powder for deeper chocolate flavor
