Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup cold butter cubed
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons milk if needed

Instructions

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Mix well to distribute evenly.

Cut in Butter

  • Add cold butter cubes. Use a pastry cutter or fork to mix until crumbs form. Butter pieces should remain small.

Add Sour Cream

  • Stir in sour cream gently. Mix until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix to keep biscuits tender.

Adjust Dough

  • If dough feels dry, add a little milk. Mix lightly until dough comes together.

Shape the Dough

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface. Pat gently to about 1-inch thickness without pressing too hard.

Cut Biscuits

  • Use a cutter or glass to cut rounds. Place them on the baking tray close together.

Bake Biscuits

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes until tops are golden brown and biscuits are cooked through.

Serve Warm

  • Remove from oven and serve warm. Enjoy soft, fluffy biscuits with butter or jam.

Notes

  • Use very cold butter for flaky texture
  • Do not overwork the dough
  • Add shredded cheese for a savory twist
  • Brush tops with melted butter after baking
  • Use buttermilk instead of milk for richer taste
  • Add herbs like chives for flavor
  • Bake biscuits close together for softer sides
