Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes optional
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Heat the oil

  • Add olive oil to a large pot. Heat on medium until warm and ready for cooking.

Cook the beef

  • Add ground beef and cook until browned. Break into small pieces and drain extra fat.

Add onion and garlic

  • Add chopped onion and garlic. Cook until soft and fragrant for better flavor.

Add tomato base

  • Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomato paste. Stir well to combine everything evenly.

Add seasoning

  • Add salt, pepper, oregano, basil, sugar and chili flakes. Mix well for balanced flavor.

Simmer slowly

  • Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat. Let it simmer for 30–40 minutes while stirring occasionally.

Adjust thickness

  • If sauce is too thick, add a little water. If too thin, cook longer to reduce.

Taste and adjust

  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed. Add more herbs or salt as desired.

Serve and enjoy

  • Serve hot over cooked spaghetti. Garnish with parsley and enjoy a rich homemade meal.

Notes

  • Use Italian sausage instead of beef for more flavor
  • Add mushrooms or bell peppers for texture
  • Use fresh basil for better aroma
  • Simmer longer for deeper taste
  • Add parmesan cheese for richness
  • Use ground turkey for a lighter option
