Ingredients

  • 1 standing rib roast 4–6 pounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • Optional: beef broth for pan

Instructions

Bring Meat to Room Temperature

  • Remove rib roast from fridge and let it sit for 1 hour. This helps it cook evenly inside and outside.

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). This high heat helps create a flavorful crust on the roast.

Prepare the Seasoning Mix

  • In a bowl, mix salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary and thyme. This creates a flavorful rub.

Rub the Roast

  • Rub olive oil all over the meat. Then coat evenly with seasoning mix and minced garlic for deep flavor.

Place in Roasting Pan

  • Place the roast bone-side down on a rack in roasting pan. This allows even air circulation.

Start High-Heat Roasting

  • Roast at 450°F for 20 minutes. This helps form a crispy and flavorful outer crust.

Lower the Temperature

  • Reduce oven temperature to 325°F (165°C). Continue roasting slowly for even cooking and tenderness.

Check Internal Temperature

  • Use a meat thermometer. For medium-rare, cook until 130–135°F inside. Adjust based on preference.

Rest the Meat

  • Remove roast from oven and let it rest for 20 minutes. This keeps juices locked inside.

Slice and Serve

  • Cut into thick slices and serve warm. Enjoy juicy, tender beef with rich flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh herbs for stronger aroma
  • Add butter on top for extra richness
  • Cook on bone for better flavor
  • Do not skip resting time
  • Use garlic butter rub for extra taste
  • Serve with pan juices as gravy
  • Pair with roasted vegetables or potatoes
