Ingredients
  

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 –2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional toppings: butter honey, cinnamon, brown sugar, sour cream, or chopped herbs

Instructions
 

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) for even baking.

Wash Sweet Potatoes

  • Wash each sweet potato thoroughly. Scrub skin to remove dirt. Pat dry with a clean towel.

Prick the Skin

  • Use a fork to prick sweet potatoes all over. This allows steam to escape while baking.

Rub with Oil

  • Brush sweet potatoes with olive oil. Rub evenly over the entire surface. Sprinkle light salt if desired.

Prepare Baking Tray

  • Place sweet potatoes on baking tray. Leave space between each potato. Use foil if preferred.

Bake in Oven

  • Place tray in oven. Bake for 45–50 minutes until tender.

Test Doneness

  • Insert fork into center. It should slide in easily. Sweet potatoes are done when soft inside.

Remove from Oven

  • Take tray out carefully. Let sweet potatoes rest for 5 minutes to cool slightly.

Slice Open

  • Make a slit down the center of each sweet potato. Push edges gently to open.

Add Optional Toppings

  • Add butter, cinnamon, honey or brown sugar if desired. Serve warm for best taste.

Serve

  • Place sweet potatoes on plates. Enjoy as side dish or simple healthy snack.
