Ingredients

  • 400 grams pasta fusilli, penne, or bow ties
  • 2 cans 160 grams each tuna in water, drained
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes halved
  • 1 small red bell pepper diced
  • ½ cup fresh basil pesto
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons pine nuts or chopped walnuts

Instructions

Cook the Pasta

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente. Drain and cool.

Cool the Pasta

  • Rinse pasta with cold water to stop cooking. Shake off excess water. Place pasta in a large mixing bowl.

Prepare the Vegetables

  • Wash cherry tomatoes and cut in half. Dice the red bell pepper. Add both to the pasta.

Add Tuna

  • Drain the tuna well. Flake the tuna into small pieces. Gently fold into the pasta mixture.

Make the Dressing

  • In a small bowl, combine pesto, olive oil, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth and well-mixed.

Mix Pasta with Dressing

  • Pour the pesto dressing over the pasta, tuna, and vegetables. Toss gently to coat everything evenly.

Season the Salad

  • Add salt, black pepper, and optional nuts. Mix gently, tasting to adjust seasoning if needed.

Add Cheese

  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan over the salad. Fold it in lightly to distribute the flavor.

Chill Before Serving

  • Cover the salad and chill in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes. This helps flavors blend nicely.

Serve

  • Serve the salad cold or at room temperature. Garnish with extra basil leaves if desired.

Notes

  • Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta for healthier options.
  • Swap tuna with cooked chicken for a different flavor.
  • Add roasted zucchini or eggplant for extra texture.
  • Use store-bought or homemade pesto, depending on preference.
  • Add sun-dried tomatoes for extra richness.
  • Mix in olives for a salty, Mediterranean touch.
  • Sprinkle extra Parmesan before serving for stronger flavor.
