Ingredients

  • 2 cups walnut halves
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

Melt the Butter

  • Heat butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat until fully melted and starting to bubble slightly.

Add the Sugar

  • Add the sugar to the melted butter. Stir continuously until the sugar starts melting and forms a thick, shiny mixture.

Mix in the Walnuts

  • Add walnuts to the pan. Coat them well with the toffee mixture while stirring gently for even coverage.

Cook Until Glossy

  • Keep stirring the walnuts until the toffee becomes golden and glossy. Make sure all nuts are fully coated.

Remove from Heat

  • Turn off the heat when the nuts are evenly coated and starting to caramelize without burning.

Spread on Parchment

  • Pour the candied walnuts onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread them out so they do not stick.

Cool Completely

  • Let the walnuts cool fully. They will harden as they cool and become extra crunchy.

Break and Serve

  • Break the walnuts apart gently. Serve them fresh or store for later enjoyment.

Notes

  • Add cinnamon for warm flavor. Just sprinkle ½ teaspoon while cooking.
  • Use brown sugar for a deeper caramel taste and richer color.
  • Try honey by replacing part of the sugar, but cook on lower heat to avoid burning.
  • Add sea salt on top for sweet-salty flavor.
  • Use pecans or almonds instead of walnuts for a new twist.
  • Add vanilla at the end for a smooth aroma.
  • Double the batch if serving at a party because these disappear fast!
