Ingredients
  

For the Filling

  • 2 cups apples peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

For the Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter or shortening
  • 1/2 cup water as needed

For Frying

  • Oil for frying

Instructions
 

Cook Apple Filling

  • In a pan, cook apples, sugar, cinnamon, butter and lemon juice until soft. Let cool.

Prepare Dough

  • In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter and add water to form dough.

Roll Dough

  • Roll out dough and cut into small circles.

Add Filling

  • Place a spoon of apple filling in the center of each circle.

Seal Pies

  • Fold dough over and press edges with a fork to seal.

Heat Oil

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Fry Pies

  • Fry each pie until golden brown on both sides.

Drain Oil

  • Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serve

  • Serve warm with powdered sugar or glaze.

  • Use store-bought pie dough for convenience
  • Add nutmeg or cloves for extra spice
  • Sprinkle powdered sugar on top
