Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions
 

Heat the Oil

  • Pour vegetable oil into a deep pan. Heat it to 350°F.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and pepper.

Add Onion

  • Stir chopped onions into the dry mixture.

Mix Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk egg, buttermilk and melted butter.

Combine Everything

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Stir until a thick batter forms.

Scoop the Batter

  • Use a spoon or scoop to drop small portions into hot oil.

Fry Until Golden

Remove and Drain
