Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork optional
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard

Instructions

Preheat the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C. This ensures even cooking and helps the meatloaf bake properly without drying out.

Prepare the mixture

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, pork, breadcrumbs, onion, milk, egg, ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper.

Mix gently

  • Use your hands to mix everything gently. Do not overmix. Stop when all ingredients are just combined and evenly distributed.

Shape the meatloaf

  • Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Shape it into a loaf form. Keep it even for proper cooking.

Prepare the glaze

  • In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Stir until smooth and well combined.

Add the glaze

  • Spread the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf. This creates a flavorful and slightly sweet crust.

Bake the meatloaf

  • Place the dish in the oven. Bake for about 1 hour until fully cooked and nicely browned on top.

Rest before slicing

  • Remove from oven and let it rest for 10 minutes. This helps juices settle and keeps slices firm and juicy.

Serve and enjoy

  • Slice the meatloaf and serve warm. Enjoy with your favorite sides for a complete and satisfying meal.

Notes

  • Use a mix of beef and pork for better flavor
  • Add garlic for extra taste
  • Use oats instead of breadcrumbs
  • Do not skip resting time before slicing
  • Add chopped bell peppers for variation
  • Use barbecue sauce instead of ketchup glaze
