Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg potatoes thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika

Instructions
 

Preheat the oven

  • Set oven to 180°C. Grease a baking dish to prevent sticking.

Slice the potatoes

  • Cut potatoes into thin slices. Try to keep them even for proper cooking.

Make the sauce

  • Melt butter in a pan. Add flour and cook briefly. Slowly add milk and cream while stirring.

Add seasoning

  • Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika. Mix well until smooth.

Add cheese

  • Stir in shredded cheese until melted and creamy.

Layer the potatoes

  • Place a layer of potatoes in the dish. Pour some sauce over them.

Repeat layers

  • Continue layering potatoes and sauce until everything is used.

Bake the dish

  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then uncover and bake 15 minutes more.

Cool and serve

  • Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy creamy and tender potatoes.

  • Use Yukon gold potatoes for best texture
  • Add parmesan cheese for extra flavor
  • Add onions for more taste
  • Use half-and-half instead of cream
  • Add bacon bits for smoky flavor
